In Other News….

9 people are dead after a 21-year old gunman entered an African-American church in Charleston, SC and started shooting worshippers, in an apparent racially motivated attack. Amazing how the gunman is still alive. It’s also amazing how people continue to ignore/overlook/hide the facts that racism – in statements about politicians, in police incidents, in comments about the President and his family, and so on – has skyrocketed back to the forefront since President Obama was elected in 2008.

… Speaking of the Presidency: Donald Trump announced that he is officially running for President. I don’t know what the bigger joke will be: Trump’s candidacy, the group of folks who will vote for him, or the field day that Jon Stewart, James Carden, and the other comedy shows will have with this? As comedian Alonzo Bodden once said about Herman Cain’s presidential run: “It’s like the Comedy Gods looked down on all of us comics, and said: ‘relax, I’ve got this one’.”

… The FCC announced that it will fine AT&T Mobility $100 million for throttling data speeds and misleading customers about “unlimited” data. I had AT&T a few years back, as my first “contract” cell phone. I liked the phone and liked the service but I can tell you from personal experience that they (and T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile prepaid) absolutely DO/DID throttle your data speeds if you use(d) more than 3-5 GB of data.

… Chad issued air strikes against the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram in Nigeria. Both Chad and Niger have been stepping up attacks on Boko Haram in recent months. However, since it doesn’t affect Americans – yet – there hasn’t been a lot of mention about it on the airways.

… I’m still trying to figure out how you can sneak power equipment and saws into your jail cell and break out of prison.

… Patch 6.2 will finally go live for World of Warcraft on June 23rd. A trailer for that patch is out, also. I’m curious to see just how good the new areas and features are, once I reactivate my account. Also, how many people will have already run all of the new dungeons and raids, gotten all of the new achievements, and will be crying “I’m bored!” by July 4th?

… the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015 (E3 2015) is wrapping up today. I haven’t seen many of the press conferences yet. I do know that some of the bigger game titles and items that were revealed include: Oculus Rift’s final design; Doom 4 (which I loved the 8 1/2 clip of gameplay!!); a remake/reboot(?) of Final Fantasy VII; gameplay demo of Fallout 4Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (which I need to start playing that series, somehow); and a joint PC Gamer-AMD press conference on upcoming PC games (since I don’t have a game system, this press conference is of particular interest to me). More of E3 2015 in a future post.
