This is not a drill: “Baldur’s Gate III” is official!

“Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn” is my all-time favorite video game. I probably spent hundreds of hours playing it (and its expansion, “Throne of Bhaal”), trying different party combinations, different quests that I skipped, and harder difficulties, to varying degrees of success.

Nearly 20 years later, we get a sequel.

Announced during Google Stadia’s Connect event – amid the rumors that the announcement was imminent – Larian Studios made the official announcement, plus released a CGI trailer, for “Baldur’s Gate III”. There wasn’t a release date announced or on which platforms (other than PC) the game will be available.

The trailer is available in the link at the top of the post.

Larian Studios’s official Press Release, also via Comicbook.com:

“Created in close collaboration with the Dungeons & Dragons team at Wizards of the Coast, ‘Baldur’s Gate III’ is based off current D&D mechanics and spells and is the official new chapter in the legendary series.”

“Baldur’s Gate III will push the boundaries of the RPG genre and offer a rich narrative with unparalleled player freedom, high-stakes decisions, unique companion characters and memorable combat. It is Larian Studios’ biggest production ever and will be playable together with friends or as a single-player adventure. The teaser trailer shows a return of a malevolent presence to Baldur’s Gate, intent on devouring it from the inside out, corrupting everything that remains in the Forgotten Realms. Alone you may resist, but together you can overcome. Gather your party.”

The hype is real! I can’t wait for this game to come to PC! We have to wait for more details on game play, game settings, and possible characters to be released. For now, though, I have to prep for a possible return trip to The Sword Coast! I’ll make sure to pack enough Greater Healing Potions.
